Drive All Night is a film-noir romantic thriller I shot in the Fall of 2019. This came with so many challenges, but my team and I welcomed them. The director had a very specific, highly stylized look he wanted to capture. But, given the nature of the locations, resources, and schedule, I usually had little to no control of the environment. I had to be very clever about how I photographed each location to make sure it felt right and communicated whatever mood was needed in that moment. Often times I would manipulate color in-camera and coordinate with my lighting team, to achieve these stylized shots. Rather than complain about the limitations, I pulled my team aside and told them that we shouldn’t see this as a handicap, but rather an incredible opportunity to really flex our abilities and show what we could accomplish even when resources were so small.
